A Birthday Message

Today i spent the day with friends and family, enjoying all things… What a great day… Breakfast with family and ending the day with a wonderfully laid picnic in the beach at sun set surrounded by friends… it was AWESOME!!! we even had kites.. ;D my wonderful sister has organized it all… Thanks my love, you are always the best… and everyone thanks for making my day so very special…

For me working with whites are the most difficult, this friend loves classic looks and chocolate color, so i incorporated both as the theme for this card...

Long, Long Time After

Wow, where did the time go by… i'm so sorry that i was soooooooo out of touch… been very busy with my work and never really got time for crafting and blogging… do you ever feel life has just sucked up your time?$@!%^) it was unbelievable i just turned around and it is a month since i last blogged… i'm back, and i hope to be good and true to blogging… (hope!!!!!)

So as my first piece after a long time i want to show a very special card i did for a friend… it was about "New Possibilities"

the front resembles a barn door (i wanted to do just a door - but i think the barn idea looks way better) the door resembles the avenues/ opportunities and new possibilities (sky is the limit)

inside is the famous stamp from tim - "every possibility begins with the courage to imagine"

i added a garden lantern to light the way….

so the idea was to incorporate all this in one card… the colors of nature, the film strip to remind of photography and all the wonderful places to travel and to finish…pearls…

An Inspiration

a friend of mine wanted an Inspiration card for another friend, this friend is a great photographer and my friend wanted him to be inspired by what he does… the photographer is Hirushika… he has his photographs displayed in his Facebook page, so i decided to be inspired myself… if you take a look… the photographs are just absolutely wonderful… i took some of the photographs and added them to the card with Tim Holtz film strip ribbon… the center of the film strip have the photo of the photographer himself…

i wanted it to be more like a piece of art than just a card, so each item, each look has a meaning… the lens of the camera was done by molding some oven bake clay, to give it more real effect, i added a transparent sheet with a image i got from his collection - it was somebody walking on a sandy beach, i wanted the footprints to represent the wonderful journey ahead with limitless possibilities…

the camera it self represent the focus on doing what you love… the filmstrip was for all the creative sparks portrayed through a lens…

and to end, a small saying like, "live, love photography" on a photo frame…

My Mom and Dad Birthday Cards

i wanted to show off the cards i made for my parents on their birthday… both are on the same day…

My mom's card

i did the very popular hand made nest with eggs (with pearls)…

My Dad's card

i did my dad's card to portray a lion king (he is my hero), i drew a lion king and cut it out in cardboard, then using canvas as the background i adhered it and added colors and crackle finishing with photo corners...

textures around

textured backgrounds are my favorites… so i used a dabber resist to create the background of the card and emboss resist to create the back for dad wordings… as i love to make embellishments myself.. i made the anchor by doing a bit of dry embossing…

Been a long time

Hi all, it feels like ages since i last entered the pages of my blog… i've been really busy at work and simply had no time to think of anything else. so this weekend i'm gonna fill up the pages and let loose all the stress… i've got some new cards to show off too…

The first one is something i did for a friend, who is in fact a bride in waiting… it was her final birthday as a bachelorette, so this one was done to symbolize that.

The second card i did was by accident... Recently i was going through my stash when i found these flat marbles which i found at a bead shop sometime back (as usual i have completely forgotten about it) so it stuck me suddenly with this creation…

Little bit of texture

Well, here comes a new one for the week… actually ive been preparing for my parents birthday for last 2 weeks.. i'll share with you in the recent future what i made for them… until then enjoy this little work of mine…

so this is a new technique i discovered by accident, you know how much i love gesso, so i gessoed the heart and spilled some alcohol inks on it… do't you just love the color…

My little tin soldiers

i recently purchased paper from Graphic 45 - playtime collection and the moment i received them i fell in love with these tin soldiers tags, so here is my creation with them, focusing on adding them to my father's day collection.

Our blessed holiday - Vesak

Today is a very special full moon - its known as the Vesak Poya for us Sri Lankans. what is it? Vesak is the day we celebrate Lord Buddha's Birthday (much like Christmas)… over 75% of Sri Lankan are Buddhists and we celebrate it Vesak with style, with lanterns and light festivals and pandols.

so today after 6 pm we light out our lanterns, here is how my house looks;

then i just went around the neighborhood to see what they have done… here is what i found...

this is the most common type of lanterns.. they come in all kinds of sizes and colors..

i love this lantern; it's a moving one, it goes round and round...
